Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 27, 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to Fokus ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy applies to our marketing website, our Chrome browser extension (see Section 9), and, where you choose to connect third-party accounts, our use of Google and Microsoft user data via their respective API services (see Sections 7 and 8).
2. Information We Collect
We do not collect personal information such as names, addresses, or phone numbers on this marketing website unless you voluntarily provide it (e.g., joining a waitlist). We may collect anonymous usage data to help us understand how visitors interact with our site.
3. Cookies and Analytics
3.1 Web Analytics
We use PostHog for anonymous web analytics to understand how visitors interact with our website. PostHog is configured in privacy-first mode and collects:
- Page views and navigation patterns
- Referral sources (where you came from)
- General device information (browser type, operating system, screen size)
- Approximate geographic location (country/city level only)
- Session duration and interaction patterns
What we don't collect: We do not track individual users across sessions, create user profiles, or collect any personally identifiable information (PII) through our web analytics.
3.2 Cookies
Our website uses a single first-party cookie solely for session tracking to distinguish between different visits. This cookie:
- Is set by our domain only (not by third parties)
- Does not track you across other websites
- Does not contain any personal information
- Is used only to aggregate anonymous usage statistics
No data is shared with third parties. All analytics data is processed by PostHog and stored securely in the EU region.
3.3 Legal Basis
We process anonymous analytics data based on our legitimate interest (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) to understand and improve our website performance, similar to server log analysis.
4. Your Privacy Rights
Under GDPR and other privacy regulations, you have rights including:
- Access: Request information about data we hold
- Deletion: Request deletion of your data
- Object: Object to processing of your data
Since we only collect anonymous, aggregated data, individual user data cannot be identified or deleted. If you prefer not to be included in our analytics, you can use browser privacy features or ad-blockers that prevent analytics scripts.
5. Data Security
All analytics data is transmitted securely using HTTPS encryption and stored in EU-based servers operated by PostHog, compliant with GDPR requirements.
6. Third-Party Services
We use PostHog (posthog.com) for web analytics. PostHog's privacy policy is available at https://posthog.com/privacy.
7. Google API Services & Google User Data
If you choose to connect your Google account to Fokus, we will request permission via Google OAuth and access Google user data only as authorized by you and only to provide the features you enable. Depending on the integration you connect, this may include:
- Google Calendar: calendars and events (e.g., to sync events and schedule/time-block)
- Google Tasks: task lists and tasks (e.g., to sync tasks)
- Gmail: email data and mailbox state (e.g., message metadata/content and label/read status to support email workflows)
- Google People / Contacts: basic contact details (e.g., names, email addresses, phone numbers, photos, addresses) to power attendee/contact suggestions
- Google Meet: Meet spaces/meeting links and basic profile info (e.g., name, email, avatar) to create and manage meeting links
How we use it: We use Google user data to sync and display your connected content in Fokus, keep your integrations up to date, and perform the actions you request (for example, creating/updating events or tasks).
How we store it: We store OAuth access/refresh tokens and related connection metadata to keep your integration working (e.g., refreshing access tokens). We may store copies of synced items (such as events, tasks, contact records, or email-derived records) within your Fokus account so the product can function.
How we share it: We do not sell Google user data. We do not share Google user data with third parties except (a) with service providers acting on our behalf for hosting, security, and operations, or (b) when required by law. Our website analytics provider (PostHog) does not receive your Google user data.
Limited Use: Fokus’ use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We only request and use Google user data to provide or improve user-facing features in Fokus, and we do not use Google user data for advertising.
Your controls: You can disconnect your Google account in Fokus at any time. You can also revoke Fokus’ access from your Google Account permissions page: https://myaccount.google.com/permissions.
8. Microsoft API Services & Microsoft User Data
If you choose to connect your Microsoft account to Fokus, we will request permission via Microsoft identity/OAuth and access Microsoft user data only as authorized by you and only to provide the features you enable. Depending on the integration you connect, this may include:
- Outlook Calendar (Microsoft Graph): calendars and events (e.g., to sync events and schedule/time-block)
- Outlook People / Contacts (Microsoft Graph): contact data (e.g., names, email addresses, phone numbers) to power attendee/contact suggestions
- Microsoft To Do (Microsoft Graph): task lists and tasks (e.g., to sync tasks)
- Basic profile information (Microsoft Graph): your user ID, display name, and email address; for some integrations we may also retrieve your profile photo
How we use it: We use Microsoft user data to sync and display your connected content in Fokus, keep your integrations up to date, and perform the actions you request (for example, creating/updating calendar events or tasks).
How we store it: We store OAuth access/refresh tokens and related connection metadata to keep your integration working (e.g., refreshing access tokens). We may store copies of synced items (such as events, tasks, or contact records) within your Fokus account so the product can function.
How we share it: We do not sell Microsoft user data. We do not share Microsoft user data with third parties except (a) with service providers acting on our behalf for hosting, security, and operations, or (b) when required by law.
Policy compliance: We use Microsoft user data in accordance with the permissions you grant and Microsoft Graph / Microsoft platform policies. We request only the permissions needed for the features you enable.
Our use of Microsoft user data is limited to the practices disclosed in this Privacy Policy.
Your controls: You can disconnect your Microsoft account in Fokus at any time. You can also manage/revoke consent in your Microsoft account: https://account.live.com/consent/Manage (Microsoft accounts) or https://myapps.microsoft.com (work/school accounts).
9. Chrome Browser Extension
The Fokus Chrome extension ("Fokus — Web Clipper & Quick Capture") lets you clip web content, create notes, tasks, and events from any webpage directly into your Fokus account.
9.1 Data the Extension Collects
The extension collects and transmits data only when you explicitly take an action (e.g., clipping a page or creating a task). The data collected depends on the action:
- Page clips: Page title, URL, meta description, author, publication date, and body text of the current page
- Selection clips: The text you have selected on the page
- Quick capture: The title and content you type into the popup form
- Tasks & events: Title, description, due date, bucket/calendar assignment, and other properties you provide in the creation form
This data is sent to the Fokus API (api.getfokus.com) and stored in your Fokus account. No data is sent to any other third party.
9.2 Authentication & Tokens
The extension stores your authentication tokens (access and refresh tokens) in chrome.storage.local to keep you signed in. Tokens are transmitted only to the Fokus API over HTTPS. You can sign out at any time from the extension popup, which removes all stored tokens.
9.3 Extension Settings
Your extension preferences (theme, hover menu toggle, toast notifications, default capture type) are stored locally in chrome.storage.sync and synced across your Chrome browsers. These settings contain no personal information.
9.4 Permissions
The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
- activeTab: To read the content of the current tab when you clip a page or selection
- tabs: To manage the Google OAuth sign-in tab lifecycle
- storage: To persist authentication tokens and extension settings
- contextMenus: To add "Clip to Fokus" options to the right-click menu
- scripting: To inject the content script for page clipping when the pre-loaded script is unavailable
The extension does not run in the background when not in use. It does not track your browsing history, read your data on pages you don't interact with, or transmit any information without your explicit action.
9.5 Host Permissions
The extension communicates only with api.getfokus.com. A content script is injected on all http and https pages to enable the hover menu and page clipping features, but it does not read or transmit page content unless you initiate a clip or capture action.
9.6 Data Retention & Deletion
Clipped content is stored in your Fokus account and subject to the same retention policies as any other data in Fokus. You can delete individual notes, tasks, or events from within the Fokus app. Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored tokens and settings from your browser.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when this policy was last revised.
